about

In the summer of 2004 I spend my holiday in Florence, Italy. One of the many tourist attractions I visited was the Academia del’Arte. The best-known work of art in this museum is Michelangelo’s ‘David’. What struck me even more were 4 sculptures paving the way towards ‘David’, called the ‘Four Slaves’. lyrics

Four Slaves, Four Struggles
----------------------------------
Burst the capture…
Awakening slave - enlightened
Sunrise cracked the stones
Foreshadowing the inner burning
Emerge from the marble
Young slave - burdened
Every step feels like a mile
Your conquest’s worth the pain
Emerge from the marble
Four slaves, four struggles from marble to gold
Four statues left unfinished, their passion unfolds
Four slaves, four struggles from marble to gold
Four steps to take with a conviction untold
Atlas - doubting
Each thought’s a massive weight
Kill the questions that pound in your head
Foreshadowing the inner burning
Emerge from the marble
Bearded slave - liberated
Strongest of them all
Though pain and doubt leave scars
You emerged from the marble
Four slaves, four struggles from marble to gold
Four statues left unfinished, their passion unfolds
Four slaves, four struggles from marble to gold
Four steps to take with a conviction untold
Burst the capture…
But this is not all… Your gained freedom’s not all…
Freedom’s a tool, passion the fuel
I will rule
Kill the questions that pound in your head
Now emerge from the marble
